Mel Bonis (1858-1937) was actually called Mélanie, but as female composers were hardly taken seriously in her time, she published her works under her shortened first name, which meant she could no longer be identified as female. Around 300 of her works are known, including many for piano and chamber music ensembles. Our harpist Sarah Verrue has arranged her Pièce op. 189, written for flute and piano, for flute and harp, giving it a new sound and characteristic colours. The other Mélanie in the programme, Claire-Mélanie Sinnhuber, born in 1973, is able to publish her works under her full name. Her "Un soir de Septembre" is part of a cycle inspired by Paul Klee. The special combination of flute, viola, harp and soprano is original here, but it also fits in with songs by Duparc and Debussy, arranged by the Belgian composer Frederik Neyrinck.
